If you receive an email from Australia Post, indicating that you have a parcel waiting for delivery, please delete the email immediately.

Clicking the link will direct you to a fake Australia Post website, and will ask you to download a shipping label, which is the disguised ransomware file. If run this file it will encrypt your files and force you to pay a ransom to get them back.

As a precaution, do not to click links within emails that:

  • Are not addressed to you by name or have poor English
  • Are from businesses that you were not expecting to hear from
  • Ask you to download any files, namely with a zip. or .exe file extension
  • Take you to a landing page or website that does not have the legitimate website address

Finally, always remember if you have missed a delivery, Australia Post (or the courier company) will leave a good old fashioned card in your letterbox, not an email!
